Vajkai’s World remembrance exhibition

He has a consistent work on the field of ethnography. His books and essays are mandatory on many universities. His writings have a style that next to their academic accuracy and innovative point of view made them enjoyable for everyone.

Due to his medical knowledge his first field of study was folk-therapeutics. Therefore he also dealt with the connection between villagers and the nature, the world of belief and saga. Other great theories of his were the folk architecture and furniture. He made excellent descriptions on dwellings and outbuildings, one of his preferred revertive fields were vineyards, press-houses and cellars.

There is no place around Balaton-mellék countryside, which he wouldn’t have described. He had also written about the traffic and transportation and the ancient crafts like fishing and hunting, disappeared professions like the village tooth-drawer, the railway watchman and the tobakos (tanner) etc. Everything that he wrote was about the man who seeks after his place in the world, the society of the village. His countryside monographies, where he collected his experiences throughout his journey are the role models of this genre. (Szentgál I-II., A Bakony néprajza, Balatonmellék)

Next to his academic publications, he did an unforgettable work as artistic author, local history and touristic publication author aswell. It feels that the future of our culture was really important to him, he had always taken the stand when something was against it. He was one of the most beloved lecturers on the Free Summer University in Veszprém, he was also a brilliant tour guide in the area of Lake Balaton.
