Royal Opera House – Carmen (04/22/2018 17:00 - 19:30)

Anna Goryachova sings the main role of the French classical opera of Bizet, which was directed by Barrie Kosky – broadcast from the Royal Opera House London. More Shorter

Carmen is the best-known work of not just the French componist Georges Bizet, but also the best piece of the opera literature. Habanera and Torreador became famous songs, which is unlikely to happen with any other operas. The muggy eroticism of the opera, its passion and its violence proved to be a lot on the stage, so its premier in 1875 turned to be a failure according to the critics. Since Bizet died, unfortunately he couldn’t experience the success of Carmen: it was presented on the stage of Covent Garden for more than 500 times. This famous opera was re-composed, which was originally directed for the Frankfurter Opera House by Barrie Kosky. The Australian director is one the most requested opera directors, whose career started with The Nose of Sosztakovics, which was a great success. Carmen is fighting against the traditions, since it contains music that is not connected to opera, but he was able to enrich the character with newer elements.
