The audience is welcomed by S dr. Perémi Ágota, the director of the museum, the art collector Thomas Emmerling opens the exhibition. The curator of the exhibition is the art historian Sipos Anna.
The audience can visit the exhibition from February 16 to April 29 in the Laczkó Dezső Museum, which presents more than 150 works of one of the most successful artists of the 20th century, Marc Chagall (1887-1985). Chagall introduces an imaginary world through his works that fights with the elements of the nature. No wonder, since he finds the representation of the world not just boring, but disturbing, as well. So he presented the figures with bold colours and in a naïve way. He created his own painting method, which uses the traditions of the Russian and Jewish arts.
However during his 80 years Chagall always got in touch with the newest and the most dominant art genres, he never joined any of them, he stayed a figural and lyrical artist. He tried to avoid the abstract world, but the used the expressive power of colours perfectly. He left behind a great number of paintings, graphic works, drawings, statues, ceramics, painted windows, mosaics and crochets, as well.
From the 1940s many of his lithographies were published. We can find lithographies inspired by the Bible, we can find the illustrations of Homer’s Odyssey and the pages of Jacques Lassaigne Chagall, the ceiling picture of the Opera House of Paris and the sketches to the windows of the synagogue of the Hadassah University Hospital.
